Most of my paintings are conceptual and illustrative and this one tells a story of sorts.

I hesitate to describe what was transpiring in my life or what I was thinking about when I develop a composition for a painting. Instead, I prefer to allow the viewer to read into it what they will and what if anything, it might mean to them. Like a song does.

This painting described a mood or temperament which I would equate to one of “The Hermit” in Tarot Card terms. A process of deep thought and introspection. The woman is naked in her thoughts and feelings, the nautilus shell is shelter, the ocean meets the sky and beyond and a Phoenix rises from the turbulence.
