It’s a difficult thing to try to explain, the kinds of things that you think about, when you think your end could be so close. I only had a few weeks to go before the surgery. Well meaning people said things like, “This is when you should live your dreams! Go on a cruise!” and I was thinking, “I’m sick. I don’t feel well enough to go anywhere. I’m broke. Who is paying for the cruise? So, I went to the supermarket and bought pies & cheesecakes and stuffed my face! I thought, if I live – great – I’ll diet. If I die, who will care if I’m fat. But what do I have to give before I leave? What do I want those who are important to me, to remember if I’m gone?. Then I heard the song in my head … “It’s not what you’ve got, it’s What You Give.
